LEBARA WILL STOP THE MMS SERVICE BY THE END OF THE YEAR
Our customers are making more and more use of messenger apps and messenger services. Consequently, fewer and fewer use MMS. For this reason, we are following other Swiss mobile providers and also discontinuing our MMS service as of March 17th, 2024.
What does that mean for you?
If you send an MMS, then you send to the text message also a picture, video, a voice message or mp3 file. An SMS, on the other hand, consists only of text characters.

What next?
Messenger-Apps
Most of us don't send MMS anymore, but use other messenger services. So there are enough alternatives to MMS.
The most used messenger service in Switzerland is WhatsApp. This can be easily downloaded from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android phone).
If you want to opt for a more secure variant, you may also need the following services:
- Threema
- Signal
- Telegram
Messenger services
Turn on messenger services on your smartphone, and messages with photos or videos will be sent through it automatically.
